Description
This delicious baklava is a perfect blend of crispy phyllo and sweet apple filling, drizzled with maple syrup.
Ingredients

- 16 sheets phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups walnuts or pecans, chopped
- 1 cup maple syrup
Instructions
- Peel, core, and dice apples. Toss with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Finely chop the nuts and mix with a bit of cinnamon.
- Brush a 9×13 baking dish with melted butter. Lay and butter 8–10 phyllo sheets.
- Add a layer of the apple and nut mixture.
- Continue layering 3–4 phyllo sheets with butter and alternating fillings. Finish with 8–10 phyllo layers.
- Cut the unbaked baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45–50 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Warm maple syrup slightly. Pour over hot baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Let it sit for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh apples for the best flavor.
- Let the baklava rest to absorb the syrup for better texture.
