Description

Delicious chocolate cinnamon rolls topped with a creamy glaze and festive sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour (Use whole wheat flour for a healthier option.)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar (Brown sugar can substitute for a deeper flavor.)
  • 2 tablespoons Active dry yeast (Ensure it’s fresh for best results.)
  • 1 cup Warm milk (Heated to about 110°F, not boiling.)
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (Can substitute with margarine.)
  • 2 large Eggs (Can use flax eggs for a vegan option.)
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder (Use unsweetened for a balanced taste.)
  • 1 tablespoon Gel food coloring (Avoid liquid coloring to maintain texture.)
  • 3 tablespoons Ground cinnamon (Can add nutmeg for warmth.)
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract (Substitute with almond extract for variation.)
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar (Can use a sugar substitute for lower-calorie options.)
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese (Substitute with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.)
  • 1 cup Heart sprinkles (Use any festive sprinkles.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and a pinch of granulated sugar. Let it rest for about 5 minutes, or until frothy and bubbly.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Then, add melted unsalted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the frothy yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
  3. Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Make Filling: In a small bowl, mix together granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a touch of cocoa powder. Set this mixture aside.
  5. Roll and Cut Dough: Roll the risen dough into a rectangle. Spread softened unsalted butter evenly, sprinkle with filling mixture, then tightly roll the dough. Cut into 12 equal rolls.
  6. Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed.
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Prepare Glaze: In a mixing bowl, whip together cream cheese, softened butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Glaze and Serve: Drizzle cream cheese glaze over slightly cooled rolls and finish with heart sprinkles.
