Description

Delicious cinnamon rolls with a rich cream cheese glaze that are perfect for breakfast or any time of the day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Warm milk (around 110°F (43°C))
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast (check the expiration date)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar (or coconut sugar for deeper flavor)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (melted but not hot)
  • 2 Large eggs (room temperature)
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon Red food coloring (natural alternatives can be used)
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar (packed tightly)
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 block Cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (pure recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Pour in melted butter, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms that doesn’t stick to your hands.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough gently and roll it out into a 15×9 inch rectangle.
  8. Evenly spread the filling mixture across the rolled-out dough. Roll it up tightly into a log.
  9. With a sharp knife, cut the dough log into 12 equal pieces.
  10. Place the cut rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover them again and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  13. In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  14. Add milk one tablespoon at a time to achieve your desired glaze consistency.
  15. Once the rolls have cooled slightly, generously spread the cream cheese glaze over the top.
  16. Optional: Sprinkle with heart sprinkles for a charming finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the yeast is fresh for best results.
  • You can refrigerate the dough after its first rise for overnight cinnamon rolls.
  • Feel free to adjust cinnamon and cocoa powder according to your taste.
